Lindesfarne going home day

Well today's the day.  So do not want to leave this magical Island.  We had quite some time to kill after leaving the cottage, so after packing the car, cleaning the cottage, we went back down tho the harbour for bit of a walk.  It was yet another glorious day, so decided to take photos of the village in the sunshine.  Took some of the cottage too - it was sad saying bye bye to the mice!!

So after saying bye bye to the cottage we had aa walk around, down to harbour & round the village.

So after our walk we made our way back to St Mary's church & had some quiet reflection time.  It's such a beautiful church & we both find it so comforting.

It was then off to our favourite cafe for our final lunch.

Then it was time for home.  Just less then 3 hours we were back home.  Can't wait to go back.

Lindesfarne last day

Well this is it.  The last full day on Lindesfarne.  Really sad we're leaving tomorrow.  It's such a beautiful place - even better when the visitors have gone!!

As it's Sunday we went to church this morning, to St. Mary's.  They even had gluten free wafers for communion!  now that's class!  The service was lovely & the vicar was a really nice chap!  So different to the services at the Cathedral, but just as meaningful.

After the service it was back to the cottage for soup & a drink, by which time the sun was out so it was time for a last walk down to the harbour (although weather permitting we might sneak another trip in before we leave tomorrow as we can't get off the Island till just before 1.00.).  It didn't disappoint it was full of birdies.

So that was nice getting a few more on the last day.  Eddie went off to do a bigger walk and ended up having a fab time watching the owls!  These are just some of his fantastic photos

Needless to say he was quite excited on his return!!

So we finished our time on this beautiful Island with a meal in the Crown, & back to the cottage to watch a DVD.

I know we still have tomorrow morning, but this has to be one of the best holidays ever.

Lindesfarne Day 6

Well another beautiful sunny day!  Can't believe how lucky we've been with the weather!  The plan today was go round the Priory before the causeway opens!  It's only open Saturday & Sundays this time of the year, so I'm glad we can get in early!!

There is also a big funeral on the Island & there are restrictions where you can go after 11.15.

The Priory was so beautiful in the sunshine & what was even more special was we were the only ones there which may it incredibly quiet & peaceful, it had a real tranquillity about it.  I hadn't realised before that the Priory was based on Durham Cathedral.  It was the monks from Durham Cathedral who came back to Holy Island to build the Priory in Cuthbert's memory.  Learnt a lot today.

After the walk around the priory we went into the museum, which was very interesting & really well set out, even the shop was full of interesting things - books & the like.  It made it a really interesting morning.

As it was so nice we went for a bit of a walk round the road area as the tide was out.  It was quite windy, so we didn't get too far.  Saw a little bit of wild life, but to make it more interesting Eddie decided he was going to take a tumble!!!  He was just jealous, that I'd had a fall!!  Apart from a graze on his elbow, he's fine!

Afternoon was a relaxing affair with the books.

Nice meal at the hotel again - although I did have to take my own gluten free pasta in for them to make me something!  That's not a complaint mind, because it was lovely.

Well one full day to go.  Even missed the mice today as they didn't make an appearance!!!
